I finally understand the difference between Windows Home, Pro, Education, and Enterprise — and I've been on the wrong one

Windows editions are built for very different priorities once you look past the names.

For someone who writes about Windows for a living, I spent an embarrassingly long time on the wrong edition of it. Not catastrophically wrong — the laptop still worked, nothing exploded — but wrong in the slightly humbling way where you realize you've been doing something sub-optimally for years and didn't notice. I was on Windows Home. A tech writer on Home? Shame.
